Amiga Kickstart v1.0 Startup/Boot Screen Wallpaper

The "Insert Kickstart Disk" boot screen for the early Amiga 1000's.

The “Insert Kickstart Disk” boot screen from the earliest versions of the Amiga.

The original Amiga computer was a technical marvel, but the underlying OS was very, very buggy.  To deal with this, Commodore made the decision to not place the Amiga’s OS into ROM, but rather, requiring users to load the OS from disk – called “Kickstart“.  Once the OS was loaded into RAM, the user would then load the GUI – “Workbench” from a second disk.  Fixing issues with Kickstart was a priority for Commodore and fairly early on into the Amiga 1000’s run, the OS was finally ready to be burned into a ROM, and the era of Kickstart disks was no more.

The downloadable ZIP file contains the famous “Hand with the Kickstart Disk” screenshots in the original 320×480 format, as well as:  480×800 & 640×960 (great for phones), 1024×768 & 1280×800 (for iPads and tablets), 1440×900, 1600×1200, 720P and 1080P.

Moving with his family to California in the early 80's, he eventually graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a degree in History. Rather than put that to good use, Mike continued to pursue his passion for technology by working for early, regional ISP's in the mid 1990's.
