Cloanto’s Amiga Forever 10 R2 (2024 Edition) – The Best Continues To Get Better
For twenty-seven years now, Cloanto has continued to develop and refine the best Amiga emulation package available, and the January 5th, 2024 release of Amiga Forever V10 R2 is another fantastic example of Cloanto’s commitment to preserve the legacy of Amiga computers.
The R2 update for Amiga Forever v10 is free for registered owners of v10. For new users, Cloanto continues to offer extremely generous pricing, and the same they’ve had for years. $9.95 for the Value Edition, which includes Workbench v1.3. $29.95 for the Plus Edition, offering nearly every version of Workbench, from v0.7 through 3.x. Amiga enthusiasts and collectors can still get the Premium Edition, which includes everything from the Plus Edition, and also 3 DVD’s worth of additional software, videos, interviews, etc.
Once again, little has changed visually with Amiga Forever v10, but that continues to be a good-thing. Under the hood, v10 offers a range of fixes, support for recent Windows 10 and 11 updates, and direct support for physical floppy drives, etc. One of the cool and retro features in v10 is the inclusion of an emulated Hayes-compatible “internet modem”, so you can relive BBSing.
Pros:
- Still the best legal Amiga emulation solution
- Continues to be simple to set up and to use
- Kudos to Cloanto for the work they do on behalf of the Amiga community
Cons:
- Windows-only installer, however there are instructions for using the licensed software and ROMs with Amiga Emulators for MacOS, Linux, Android, etc.
Verdict = Recommended!
